A man suspected on trying to rob a kiosk at knife point was remanded in custody for four days by Larnaca District Court on Friday.
The 29 year old from Dromolaxia tried to hide in the school yard but was immobilised by citizens who heard the kiosk owner’s cries for help and gave chase.
Wearing a hood and brandishing a knife, the suspect entered the kiosk on Thursday where he banged on the counter, demanding money. The woman in charge of the kiosk shouted for help and he fled, chased by members of the public who caught up with him in the playground of Meneou Primary School and took his knife.
Police said the suspect was intoxicated and on his arrest said “I’m sorry, I made a mistake.” He reportedly told police he wanted money to pay off gambling debts.
