Man suspected of chaining wife to rail arrested

Paphos police on Wednesday arrested a 36 year old man suspected of chaining his wife to the rail at his pub in order to stop her from drinking.

The case was reported to police by neighbours who heard the woman calling for help.

Philenews said that the 38 year old woman from Ukraine is married to the 36 year old suspect. She was found by neighbours chained by the foot to the rail in the attic. She told police that her husband did not want her consuming large amounts of alcohol.

An arrest warrant was issued against the suspect in relation to kidnap, unfair confinement and family violence.

He is due to appear in court on Thursday to be remanded in custody.
