A 35-year-old man from Nicosia district was arrested on Wednesday night for threatening calls against health expert Dr Leontios Kostrikis, a member of the advisory team to the government for Coronavirus, the CNA reports.
The man is due to appear before the Nicosia District Court on Thursday morning.
Police told CNA that the 35-year-old was arrested last night in relation to an investigation for threats and for conspiring to commit a misdemeanour in accordance with the Electronic Communications and Postal Services Law.
The threats against Dr Leontios Kostrikis were revealed on Wednesday evening during the regular televised announcement of Covid results by the Health Ministry, with spokeswoman for the Ministry Margarita Kyriacou revealing that Kostrikis would not participate in yesterday’s announcement as he was at the police station filing a complaint about threatening calls. The incident has been condemned by Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou.
