A 31 year-old man from Georgia was arrested on Sunday in Kato Paphos on suspicion of attempting to steal a pair of shoes from a store.
The man was spotted by an employee as he left the store in the tourist area of Kato Paphos, with a pair of shoes in his hands that he had not paid for.
The employee immediately alerted the security guard who immobilised the man until the police took over.
The man then resisted arrest and attacked an officer.
After arresting him, the police found a bag containing electronic products, in his possession, which were later identified as stolen by the owner of a nearby store.
The man has been residing illegally in Cyprus, the police reported.
