Low-flying Turkish airplane over Nicosia

A low-flying Anadolu Jet airplane was spotted over Aglandjia, Lykavitos and Acropolis areas Nicosia on Friday morning.

The Boeing 737-800 was first seen around 9:10 am. According to information, it took off from Ercan airport in the Turkish-occupied north and was heading towards Ankara.

To avoid bad weather conditions in the north-west of Cyprus, the airplane turned, while flying at about 5000-6000 feet over Nicosia, in order to head north-east towards Turkey.

The Republic of Cyprus views flights in the north as a violation of Cypriot airspace inside FIR Nicosia, citing legal reasons and air safety concerns.
