There are no plans to abandon Ledra Palace, Aleem Siddique, the spokesperson for the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

Siddique was responding to a question regarding the potential return of the hotel, situated within the Nicosia buffer zone, to the Church of Cyprus.

The matter had been deliberated earlier in the day during a meeting between President Christodoulides, Archbishop Georgios, and Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos.

Siddique stressed, “Ledra Palace remains imperative for UNFICYP operations inside the UN buffer zone,” highlighting its everyday use for mission-critical activities and a wide array of bicommunal events and initiatives.

Conclusively, he stated, “There are no plans to abandon this location.”

The Cyprus Archbishopric is still the main shareholder of the hotel which is situated on Nicosia’s buffer zone dividing the island.
