The personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holguín Cuéllar, called on the two leaders to listen to civil society and take steps forward.
In statements following her first meeting with President Christodoulides, she emphasized the need for progress. She pointed out that this is her own goal and she will continue to work on it.
She said that to the two leaders, after her visits to Washington, Moscow, and Europe, she conveys the support of the international community for finding a lasting solution to the Cyprus issue.
Finally, she urged the two leaders to look at this support coming from the international community and to move forward.
