Ten people taken to the station after deadly Limassol migrant raid

Police took ten people to the station after a migrant raid in Limassol which caused the death of one man and the serious injury of another.

According to police, nine people were found living inside one apartment, from which the two men attempted to escape to avoid the immigration check.

Police said they responded to a tip-off and entered the fifth-floor apartment when two men attempted to flee the scene.

One suffered fatal injuries after jumping from a bedroom window, while the other sustained serious injuries after jumping from the balcony.

“The remaining nine individuals in the apartment, along with another person from a neighbouring apartment, were all transferred to the Limassol Police Directorate for processing,” said Limassol Crime Investigation Department (CID) chief Lefteris Kyriakou.

He added that all individuals were undocumented migrants, reportedly from Bangladesh.

The Limassol Police chief, the Assistant Limassol Police chief and officers of the CID arrived at the scene following the incident, along with state coroners Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou.

Investigations are ongoing.
