Tatar: UK High Commissioner “has no right to meddle in our internal affairs”

Relevant News

“The British High Commissioner has no right to meddle in any way in our internal affairs. The Turkish nation is behind us,” Ersin Tatar told the Turkish news agency Anadolu.

Tatar was criticising Irfan Siddiq’s comments in Yeni Duzen, which negated any possibility of recognising the occupied north as a state.

“Neither does the British High Commissioner have the right nor is it his place, to give advice and knowledge to the T/C people and the T/C leadership,” added Tatar.

Claiming that Siddiq’s statements aimed to disrupt the balance in the Eastern Mediterranean in favour of England, Tatar said that the British High Commissioner “has no right to meddle in our internal affairs. We have the Turkish nation behind us. There will be no turning back on the issue of federation, and the ‘TRNC’ will live forever as a Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Blue Homeland, and no one will be able to stop it,” he said.

The Turkish Cypriot leader condemned Siddiq’s statements and said that, as of now, they will continue on their path together with the “motherland Turkey.”

Tatar reiterated that the precondition for restarting negotiations on the Cyprus issue is the recognition of sovereign equality and the granting of equal international status to Turkish Cypriots.
