Security at Larnaca Airport beefed up as Israeli airlines add more flights

Relevant News

Cyprus authorities have beefed up security at Larnaca International Airport as Israeli airlines added more flights to bring reservists home in response to Palestinian militant group Hamas’ unprecedented weekend attack.

This is what Philenews reported on Wednesday, adding that – especially over the past two days – the presence of Police both in the city and in district areas is more than obvious.

And this is because, firstly, Larnaca airport has become a transit point for thousands of Israelis and nationals of other countries flying over from the war-town area. Many of them end up in hotels in the city and the district.

Secondly, there is a large Jewish community and businesses of Israeli interests in the coastal city. As well as many Palestinians – a small number of whom gathered last Saturday in Finikoudes promenade to celebrate the Hamas strike.

At the same time, Israelis gathered in the same place the day after, and along with Ukrainians living in Cyprus, held a protest in support of Israel. All this raised the level of alarm in the city to the highest point.

As for security measures taken in the Jewish synagogue building these are unprecedented. The two roads leading to the synagogue are closed since Sunday and high precast concrete barriers have been placed to block any entry.

And those who wish to cross the streets on foot around the building, which is guarded around the clock, are being thoroughly checked.
