Relevant News

The Police in Paphos proceeded with the arrest of a 27-year-old man to facilitate investigations into a case of obtaining credit by false pretenses, as it appears he was unable to settle the bill at a restaurant where he dined.

According to Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on March 19th around 21:00, a 44-year-old restaurant owner in Paphos reported that earlier that same evening, a male customer at his restaurant refused to pay the bill in cash when the transaction for payment with a bank card he presented failed.

Members of the Paphos Tax Department were called to the scene. According to Nicolaou, the customer refused to provide his details.

Subsequently, he was arrested for verification of his identity.

An arrest warrant was issued against him for obtaining credit by false pretenses.

He was later re-arrested during the night and remains in custody, Nicolaou said.
