A 10-year-old pupil allegedly caused damage to windows and roof tiles at a primary school in Livadia, while unknown individuals throwing firecrackers burned a bench and plastic bins in the school’s yard.

According to Larnaca Police Spokesperson, Spyros Chrysostomou, a report was filed at the Voroklini Police Station on the night of Holy Saturday, regarding acts of vandalism in the school’s yard. The damage was discovered by cleaners who arrived at the school on Sunday morning.

Chrysostomou stated that the complaint primarily concerned damage to several benches, including one that was burned, and an incident in a classroom where unknown individuals threw notebooks and other objects on the floor, though no damage was caused.

Petros Savva, secretary of the Livadia school board, told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that on Saturday afternoon, an unknown individual entered the school and threw stones, breaking three windows. The perpetrator also climbed onto the roof and threw tiles onto the ground. They entered a classroom, threw books, notebooks, pencils, and other objects on the floor, and overturned waste bins.

Savva continued that firecrackers set off by unknown individuals on Holy Saturday evening burned a bench and plastic bins in the schoolyard.

The 10-year-old was found by a school guard during the Easter holidays who notified the Police.

The school board, as noted by Savva, will request that the parents of the 10-year-old cover the costs of the damages, estimated to be around one thousand euros.

A formal complaint has been filed with the Voroklini Police Station regarding the incident.
