Pro-Kurdish, pro-Palestinian protests announced for Saturday

Relevant News

A pro-Palestinian protest has been announced for this coming Saturday, 19 November, expected to take place at Molos in Limassol at 18:00 pm.

The protest has been called by ‘United for Palestine’, a grassroots group that organised a similar protest on 11 of November in Nicosia.

In parallel, another protest has been announced by the Kurdistan Cultural Centre “Theophilos” for this Saturday at 17:00 pm in Nicosia to demand the release of  Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan and Kurdish activist Kenan Ayas.

Ayaz is presently held by German authorities after his extradition from Cyprus to Germany. His trial in Germany is ongoing, having been charged with involvement in a terrorist organisation.

The Ministry of Interior has been announced as the gathering point for the protest, with protestors expected to march to the German Embassy.

In its announcement, the Cultural Centre stated:

“The march will be in support and promotion of our demand for the acquittal of our fellow activist Kenan Ayaz, who was extradited to Germany in June. The trial of Kenan, accused by Germany of terrorism, started on 3 November in Hamburg.

We invite our fellow Cypriot people to support the demand for the release of Kurdish President Ocalan and activist Kenan.”
