Prisons staff protest over colleagues’ dismissal [VIDEO]

Relevant News

Members of the ISOTITA and PASYDY prison guard unions came together today for a two-hour demonstration outside the Central Prisons.

The protest was called in response to the Ministry of Justice’s contentious decision to terminate the contracts of 13 fixed-term prison staff.

The unions, in a joint statement, condemned the dismissals as “unjust and illogical”, highlighting the impact such a move could have on an already stretched prison service.

The decision to protest comes in the wake of growing concerns over staff shortages and the overall welfare of prison employees.

The collective action aimed not only to challenge the Ministry’s decision but also to underscore the essential role each staff member plays in the secure and effective operation of the prison system.

The unions called upon the entire workforce of the Central Prisons to stand in solidarity with the dismissed colleagues, emphasising the message that “no one is redundant in such a vital and under-resourced sector.”
