President to visit the Netherlands

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, will undertake a working visit to The Hague, as announced today by the Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis.

In statements to journalists at the Presidential Palace, the Spokesperson stated that the President of the Republic will depart tomorrow morning for the Hague, Netherlands, where he will carry out a working visit and hold meetings with the country’s top leadership, upon the invitation of the Dutch Prime Minister.

Tomorrow, at 5:30 in the afternoon (Cyprus time), the President of the Republic will be received by the King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, at the Palace in The Hague.

During the audience with the King of the Netherlands, discussions will include, among other things, issues related to bilateral relations and particularly matters concerning the exchange of experiences regarding water resource management, a topic of particular interest to the King himself, the Future of Europe, in light of the upcoming European elections, as well as the current situation in Cyprus.

Subsequently, the President of the Republic will proceed to the official residence of the Prime Minister, where he will meet with the country’s Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, with whom he will discuss matters related to the European agenda, the situation in the Middle East, as well as in Ukraine, Migration, as well as Cyprus-Netherlands bilateral relations.

He will also brief on developments in Cyprus and the efforts made by our side for the resumption of negotiations, from where they were left off in Crans Montana, and based on the agreed framework, in light of the new effort made following the appointment of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy.

Cyprus-Netherlands bilateral relations are at a very high level, with the two countries maintaining a large number of bilateral agreements and cooperation in various sectors such as Defense and Security, Tourism, and Investments.

Recently, moreover, the agreement to avoid double taxation came into force, which is expected to further strengthen the cooperation between the two countries in the field of economy and investments.

The President of the Republic, who will return to Cyprus the day after tomorrow, February 29, will be accompanied to The Hague by the Deputy Minister of European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, the Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, and officials.
