Relevant News

In front of Limassol District Court on Tuesday morning (7/5), the 21-year-old suspect was brought in as part of an investigation into offenses including rioting, arson of a police vehicle, and causing malicious damage to police vehicles, which occurred on the night of Resurrection in Ypsonas.

Initially, the investigators requested the suspect’s detention for a period of eight days, however, his lawyer, Marina Lavithia, limited the request to four days.

The Court approved the request and ordered the suspect’s detention until the completion of the examinations.

As reported by philenews, the Police traced the 21-year-old suspect following information received from a reliable informant, who stated that the suspect was involved in the incidents and allegedly was the instigator who organized the gathering and attack against the members of the Force and police vehicles.

According to the same information from philenews, the informant was shown a video of the police vehicle arson, which is in the possession of the Police, identifying the voice of a man as that of the suspect.

Additionally, in another video held by the Police, the suspect appears to be filming and cursing at a police vehicle.

It should be noted that the investigative team formed to investigate the case holds various videos and posts published on a specific social media platform where the fire on the police vehicle was recorded.

After receiving relevant information, the Limassol CID investigators secured a warrant for the arrest of the 21-year-old, who was arrested as a suspect in the case.

During his arrest, as reported by philenews, the young man claimed to have been at the Church of Agios Savvas and not at the Church of Agios Georgios, where the incidents and the organized attack against the police occurred.

The 21-year-old is an individual who has recently attracted the attention of the Police for the offense of illegal possession of explosives, as a large number of firecrackers were found in his possession.

Furthermore, he was investigated for an attack against a driver of a mobile camera, pushing him and throwing stones at him.

About 30 more depositions are expected to be taken for the case, while efforts are underway to locate the other perpetrators who participated in the incidents and the arson of the police vehicle.

At the same time, the suspect’s mobile phone is being sought, which has not been located yet.
