Police investigate 39-year-old for malicious damage and arson

According to the police, around 1 a.m., information was given to them that people were quarrelling in the Tsiflikoudia area of Limassol.

Patrols arrived at the scene, where they found seven individuals holding the 39-year-old man immobilised.

It should be noted that according to the them, ten minutes after midnight, while they were sleeping in a room of an abandoned building, they noticed clothes on fire at the entrance door of the room, as well as on other clothing and footwear items.

They extinguished the fire using water, causing damage to the door and walls of the room.

After 30 minutes and after extinguishing the fire, they saw the 39-year-old opposite the building and on the pavement, mocking them.

It should be noted that the 39-year-old had asked them to leave the building two days ago, after which he asked them to pay rent, which they refused, and he threatened to set them on fire.

They approached him and he reacted, trying to escape. They immobilised him using similar force until the arrival of the police.

At the scene, members of the Limassol police were called, and from the examinations, it was found that the fire was set using flammable material.

The scene was guarded awaiting further examinations in collaboration with the Fire Service.

The 39-year-old suspect was taken into custody, with an arrest warrant against him is expected, while the investigations continue.
