Petition calls for end to discrimination against migrants

Relevant News

An online petition has been launched calling for an end to racial discrimination and unlawful actions against migrants in Cyprus, following the death of a migrant worker after a police raid in an apartment in Limassol.

“Yesterday, a man tragically lost his life, jumping from the fifth floor of his building to escape an immigration raid. He was not a criminal; he was merely seeking safety. Yet, due to the policies of the government and actions of the police, he died. The situation is escalating daily”, the petition states.

Noting that migrants experience racial discrimination by both the police and governmental bodies, the petition calls “upon international human rights organizations as well as European Union institutions to intervene urgently in this matter before more lives are lost or ruined due to these discriminatory practices”.

“Please sign this petition if you believe that every individual deserves respect regardless of their nationality or immigration status; if you believe that no one should live in fear because they sought refuge or better opportunities abroad; if you believe that it’s time for change – not just for us but also future generations who may find themselves facing similar circumstances”, it concludes.

The petition can be found here.
