Perdikes vying to retake helm of Cyprus Green Party

Relevant News

George Perdikes is in contention for the leadership of the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation, after the resignation of Charalambos Theopemptou.

Perdikes, who led the party before Theopemptou, will stand in as a candidate in the elections scheduled for November 26, 2023.

The former Greens leader confirmed his decision on Politis radio this morning.

“I am interested,” he said, “for the presidency of the movement and I will stand in as a candidate, as I believe that unity and stability must return at the party”.

He added that he contacted other candidates to inform them that if elected, he would remain in the position for a year and two months, which is when Theopemptou’s presidency would have ended if he had not resigned. Perdikes also said that he is not interested in running in parliamentary elections and restarting his political career.

Greens members Efi Xanthou and Sotiris Christou are also in contention for the party’s leadership.
