Pensioner and wife arrested for alleged cannabis cultivation

Relevant News

A retired 70-year-old man and his 61-year-old wife have been apprehended by authorities in Cyprus on suspicion of cultivating cannabis at their residence and distributing it to others.

The arrest followed a raid conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Unit of Famagusta at the couple’s home, situated in a rural area in Xylofagou.

During the operation, law enforcement officers discovered approximately 415 grams of cannabis stored in glass bottles and nylon bags inside the house.

Further investigation revealed additional items associated with cannabis use, including a used smoking pipe, a grinder with residual plant material, a medical syringe containing cannabis oil, and a precision scale.

Both the British retiree and his wife were taken into custody on drug-related charges. During questioning, they claimed to have grown marijuana in pots hidden outdoors for personal consumption.

However, authorities reportedly suspect their involvement in supplying cannabis to specific individuals, particularly foreigners.

The suspects appeared before the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni, where they were ordered to be held in detention for a period of six days pending further investigation.
