Pedestrian, 77, killed in Kokkinotrimithia hit-and-run

A 77-year-old woman, Eleni Stavrinidou of Kokkinotrimithia, died early this morning after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run collision.

According to police, the incident occurred around 6:00 am on Eirinis and Filias Street in Kokkinotrimithia. A 23-year-old man driving a car hit Stavrinidou, who was a pedestrian, under circumstances still under investigation.

According to police, the driver fled the scene without stopping to assist.

Stavrinidou was transported by ambulance to the Nicosia General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

The 23-year-old driver later presented himself at the Kokkinotrimithia Police Station around 8:00 am. He was transferred to the Nicosia Traffic Police for further investigation.

The exact cause of Stavrinidou’s death will be determined by a forensic autopsy.

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the collision to contact their nearest police station, the Citizen’s Line at 1460, or the Nicosia Traffic Police at 22802023.
