Parliamentary committee examines updates to agricultural legislation

Relevant News

The Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture is discussing amendments to the 2022 Law on the Regulation of the Operation of Farmers’ Markets, as an extensively revised draft law was submitted before it on Tuesday.

In his statements, the President of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, AKEL MP Yiannakis Gabriel, stated, “In recent years, despite the clear provisions of the existing legislation for the exclusive sale of Cypriot products, we receive numerous complaints about violations of the law.”

As Mr. Gabriel mentioned, “There is a question of effective enforcement of the legislation by the relevant government services regarding the compliance with horizontal legislation concerning the origin, quality, hygiene, and safety of products.”

The revised text was submitted to the Agriculture Committee today, which includes extensive changes, he added, noting that the Committee will prioritize the matter so that the draft law with modernizing provisions can be presented to the Plenary as soon as possible.
