Parent alleges verbal attack on daughter at Paphos school

Relevant News

A mother has complained that her daughter, who attends the third grade of high school in Paphos, was subjected to verbal abuse with a racist tone.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred during a break while the student was with two other girls in the school’s restroom.

According to the student, she was verbally attacked by a teacher who was supervising during the break.

On the school’s part, the administration rejects the allegations, claiming that when the three students were found together in the restroom by the educator, after another student complained that it was occupied for too long, their excuse was that they were watching a video.

Addressing one of the girls, the supervising teacher reportedly said she knows her, a statement that, according to the mother of that particular student, was perceived as a racist attack.

The mother also claimed in her complaint that there was no written notice in the restrooms indicating that entry of more than one person is prohibited.

On the contrary, authorities argue that this particular student has repeatedly been found to stay in the restroom area for extended periods, prompting the administration to impose educational measures to make it clear that in a school with 600 children, everyone must respect their classmates.

Following the new incident and complaint, the three students were given a seven-hour suspension, meaning they would remain at school on the day of the incident, but absences were recorded for them.

The District Education Office of Paphos has also been informed about the case.
