It was a peaceful demonstration by a number of the district’s farmers, both in solidarity with mass protests in the rest of Europe, as well as a symbolic stance and message to the government that preventive action is needed to support the agriculture sector before the situation turns equally dramatic.
Pafos MP Chrysanthos Savvides who attended the event, stressed the the sector is now facing massive issues, with the farmer no longer being viable as a profession. He added that the new Agriculture Minister has shown positive signs in dealing with the problems, but there are still serious matters pending, such as timely payment of compensation, subsidies and so on.
