Outlining the key players in Auditor General court case

Relevant News

Three of the nine judges of the Supreme Constitutional Court, which will convene as a Council to adjudicate the application for the dismissal of the Auditor General, Odysseas Michaelides, also participated in the first and only case of a request for the dismissal of a state official for inappropriate behaviour.

These include the current president of the body, Antonis R. Liatsos, and judges Tefkros Economou and Tasia Psara Miltiadou.

All three participated in the Council of the Supreme Court that examined the request of the former Attorney General, Costas Clerides, for the dismissal of Rikkos Erotocritou, following his statements on 14/4/2015 attributing punishable acts to Clerides without evidence.

On the other hand, two of the lawyers of the Auditor General, Giorgos Triantafyllides and Christos Clerides, have experience due to their involvement in the specific request for the dismissal of a state official, as they represented the former Attorney General.

They both participated, along withAchilles Emilianides, as representatives of Costas Clerides.

In the case of Odysseas Michaelides, however, there is a notable difference.

The current Deputy Attorney General, Savvas Angelides, represented, along with lawyer Elias Stefanou, the former Attorney General in the criminal case against Rikkos Erotocritou.

Today, he may not be a litigant, but he is involved, in the sense that in the process, he is likely to be a witness for the applicant Attorney General, and one of the issues raised in the application concerns the Auditor General’s complaint against him to the Anti-Corruption Authority.

On the side of the Attorney General, in the legal battle that will take place before the Council, two of the largest law firms will be represented, L. Papafilippou & Co and Kallis & Kallis LLC.

Former judge Panagiotis Kallis, father of Dinos Kallis who now represents the current Attorney General, was appointed by the former Attorney General Costas Clerides as a criminal investigator and prepared a report on Rikkos Erotocritou for possible corruption.
