The Ministry of Interior has announced the launch of an electronic service for information on registration in the special electoral register for the 2024 European Elections for citizens residing in areas where the Government of the Republic does not exercise effective control.

The service can be accessed at https://etv.elections.moi.gov.cy/.

According to the provisions of paragraph (1A) of Article 9 of the Law on the Election of Members of the European Parliament of 2004, every citizen of the Republic is enrolled in the special electoral register for voters who:

  1. Reside in areas where the Government of the Republic does not exercise effective control.
  2. Have already reached or will reach the age of 18 by the date of the European Parliament election.
  3. Possess an identity card of the Republic issued by the Population Registry System.

The service, developed following a recommendation from the Office of the European Parliament in Cyprus, aims to inform citizens promptly about the conditions for automatic registration in the special electoral register.

This allows them to take necessary actions, possibly updating their details in the Population Registry System. Relevant applications must be submitted to the offices of the respective Districts by April 2, 2024.

It is reminded that citizens residing in areas where the Government of the Republic does not exercise effective control vote in special polling stations set up for this purpose in areas adjacent to the ceasefire line.

Unlike other voters, these citizens are not assigned to specific polling stations and can vote at any special polling station. To avoid double voting, electronic electoral registers are used in these centers.
