One in four teenage students in Cyprus are angry, according to a recent global study conducted by the World Health Organisation where the Ministry of Education in Nicosia also provided data.
In fact, about four out of 10 students – aged 11, 13 and 15 – express nervousness, anger or nagging more than once weekly.
The study also shows that 38% express nervousness more than once a week, 38.7% anger or nagging, 20.8% sleeping difficulties and 24.5% are moody. In addition, 17.9% of them feel lonely – most of the time or always.
However, 77.9% of those polled in Cyprus said they were in a good mood most of the time. And 66.2% feel calm and relaxed, 72.1% are energetic and active, 53% are rested when they wake up and 68.9% are sad their daily life is full of things that interest them.
The Education Ministry which presented the study suggested investing in local programs, targeted interventions, and mental health monitoring mechanisms within the school curriculum.
This is in a bid to address and improve the mental well-being of the youth in Cyprus.
