The situation of the major fire that broke out between Farmakas and Fikardou on Saturday afternoon has improved.
According to the spokesperson of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, there are no active fronts as throughout the night, aided by calm winds, ground forces have been working with bulldozers and managed to contain the fire. Forces remain deployed around the perimeter, securing the area.
Since early morning, five air tractor aircraft have been operating, securing the perimeter and conducting water drops where needed. The aerial fleet is expected to increase to eight, including two helicopters from the British Bases and one from the National Guard for coordination.
Firefighting efforts continue to fully control the fire, while there is a serious risk of rekindling throughout the day.
Over 250 firefighters and support personnel from all state services, organized volunteer groups, and more than 60 firefighting and support vehicles are engaged in the suppression effort.
