Nikos Anastasiades calls for party unity

Relevant News

“The Democratic Rally was founded by the late national leader, Glafkos Clerides, to serve our country and people, not to fulfill the ambitions of any of us,” former President of the Republic and honorary President of DISY, Nikos Anastasiades, stated in a written declaration regarding what was said or came to light after the meeting of the Political Bureau.

He appeals “to those who identified with and served our historic movement to set aside personal grievances and, by joining forces, to bring hope back to our people and our occupied homeland.”

He states that the unity of the party was threatened as never before in the Presidential elections of 2003 and the referendum of 2004.

However, with the calm handling of the leadership, the historic cadres, and the unwavering love of the members, supporters, and friends of the movement, not only was DISY not endangered by division but remained the leading political force in the subsequent elections.

He further notes that the distancing of a member of the Government and the party, as well as the perennial handling of party matters, or even the wrong assessments, instead of leading DISY to a third term in government, “have led us to introspection with unforeseen risks.”

He adds that the continuation of blaming each other for personal vindication only leads to “a path of destruction.”
