Neurological society highlights system abuses and waiting lists

Relevant News

A woman visited four different neurologists within a span of four days, while a man visited three neurologists over a period of twenty days for the same issue.

“It so happened that a woman came to the hospital urgently seeking to see me for a ‘terrible’ problem. Out of schedule, I listened to her issue and told her to come back the next day for a proper examination. She came the next day at 2 o’clock. When I entered the visit into the system, I saw that this particular patient had visited another neurologist one hour earlier, i.e., at 1 o’clock,” stated the President of the Neurological Society of Cyprus, Michalis Protopapas.

He further emphasised that “based on the data we as doctors see daily within the GHS (General Health System), we believe that some measures need to be taken. Besides the abuse of the system, congestion and waiting lists are also caused, and waiting lists continue to be one of the major problems of the GHS.”

Representatives of the neurological society have a meeting today with the Health Committee of the Parliament.
