Ministry of Health alarmed over possible fake pharmacy degrees

Relevant News

Information about possible fake pharmacy degrees from universities of a specific country which is a European Union member has raised alarm in the Ministry of Health, Philenews reports.

In fact, the Pharmaceutical Services have already contacted one specific University which allegedly granted the particular degree in a reported case which is now under investigation, an insider also said.

And the received response seems to lead to the need for the Cyprus Police to also be informed on this case while another one is in process – again with a university from the same EU country.

The alarming issue came to the fore after the Pharmaceutical Services were informed of a case of a pharmacist who, according to those who filed the complaint, practiced the profession without the necessary qualifications.

During the investigation of this case, the Services received information about the diplomas of other pharmacists who also appeared to have studied in the European country in question. That’s why the investigation was extended.

In all cases, and irrespective of the answers given by the universities involved, the Pharmaceutical Services will also seek the position of the pharmacists in question.

The alarming issue came under the radar of the Cyprus Pharmaceutical Association which convened an emergency meeting. Key developments should be expected at the end of this week, an insider also said.
