Limassol District Court order a 20-year-old to remain in custody for six days to facilitate investigations into a case of rape.
The man was arrested on suspicion of raping a 21-year-old woman, while one more person is wanted in the case.
The 20-year-old was arrested yesterday and today he was brought before the Limassol District Court for a request for his detention.
The proceedings were held behind closed doors, with the Court approving the request of the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the detention of the suspect for six days.
According to philenews, the suspect’s defence lawyer, during the detention procedure, asked the investigator of the case to immediately take specific actions, which, as he argued, would demonstrate the facts.
According to the same information, the complainant in her complaint claims that she had intercourse against her will with the suspect and with another person in the apartment of the former.
The alleged rape according to the complainant took place last Friday evening and she went to the police station on Saturday afternoon where she reported the case.
The young woman appears to have been introduced to the suspect by an acquaintance, who allegedly had a previous relationship with her.
Subsequently, the suspect and the complainant met around 4 to 5 times.
On Friday (February 23) they went out for drinks with another person and subsequently went to the suspect’s apartment.
Thereafter, they appear to have consumed alcohol, with the complainant claiming that she does not remember what followed, but saying that at some point she realised that she was naked and that she had been raped by the two persons.
The same information said that before the alleged rape, the young woman said she had uploaded a video on social media where she recorded the suspect holding a gun and shooting in the air, commenting.
Subsequently, she claimed that after she was raped, she was threatened by the suspect with the said pistol to delete the said video, which she refused.
Following the complaint to the police, the suspect’s apartment was searched, where various items of evidence were found and taken for examination.
It should be noted that the complainant was also examined by a forensic doctor.
The 20-year-old man was arrested and, as reported, he admits in his interrogation that he was with the young woman, but he denies what the complainant accuses him of, saying that he did not have intercourse with her.
He also claims that the young woman stole 1,500 euros from him.
