Residents in Limassol have been left reeling from the aftermath of a tornado that tore through the area in the early hours.
Eyewitness accounts paint a picture of chaos and destruction, with many calling it an unprecedented event.
One homeowner in Germasogeia told philenews about the terrifying experience, saying it was unlike anything they had ever faced. “It was a frightening, unparalleled experience,” they said.
Another resident Chara, affected by the tornado, reported significant damage to her property and her mother’s. Despite the devastation, she remains thankful, stating, “Thank God we are alright; the losses are only material.” She also extended her gratitude to the Civil Defense for their immediate support in the wake of the disaster.
In a similar vein, Sofia Charalambous, another victim of the tornado, described the event as a once-in-a-lifetime natural catastrophe. “It was like living through an earthquake,” she said.
The impact was so severe that upon inspecting her property, she found it completely ravaged. “I came downstairs to find the house bare; everything was gone – windows, aluminium frames, even the paintings in the living room,” she lamented.
