Laptop of Kenan Ayaz’s lawyer allegedly stolen by Secret Service

Relevant News

A very serious allegation of significant proportions is highlighted in a press release from the Observatory for the trial of Kenan Ayaz dated December 26, 2023.

The Observatory denounces an attack by secret services on the Cypriot mission for the trial of Kenan Ayaz, who participated in two judicial proceedings between December 18 and 22 before returning to Cyprus.

The mission consisted of lawyers and members of the Observatory, which provides updates in Greek, English, and German on the trial proceedings against the Kurdish activist.

According to the press release, the mission departed from Cyprus on Monday, December 18, and observed two historic judicial procedures that analyzed the history, philosophy, organizational structure, and military actions of the Kurdish freedom movement.

On December 22, the mission left Hamburg to return to Cyprus, realizing that the personal laptop of a mission lawyer had been stolen from the hotel room—nothing else was taken. The laptop contained sensitive information about the trial and the defense of Kenan Ayaz, while updates were posted on the website “kenanwatch.org.”

As stated in the Observatory’s press release, Kenan Ayaz’s lawyer in Germany, Antonia von der Behrens, immediately reported the incident, and the federal prosecutor overseeing the case was informed.

The Observatory expresses certainty that this is a serious attack by the secret services of either the Turkish or German state, or collaboration between the two, as part of a special war against the Kurdish movement.

It is also emphasized that the persecution and suppression methods against the movement and its supporters are part of the international campaign that began with the imprisonment of Abdullah Ocalan and continues unabated.

Kenan Ayaz’s lawyer, Efstathios Efstathiou, who participated in the mission, stated, “As the Observatory for the trial of Kenan Ayaz, we declare unequivocally that we will continue our activities, strengthening our support and escalating our presence in Hamburg and our public actions.”

It is reminded that the Observatory was established to break the silencing and covering-up methods of Kenan Ayaz’s case and to ensure that the Kurdish activist returns to Cyprus, as guaranteed by the German state.
