Relevant News

Today, Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis, stated that the goal is to decide on measures for enhancing the overall operational effectiveness of the entire police force.

Following his visit to the Police Headquarters in Famagusta, Mr. Hartsiotis noted that in the Famagusta district, there are two particularities compared to other districts.

The first is the large wave of migrants arriving in the area, and the second particularity is the enormous number of tourists it receives during the summer period, which in Cyprus lasts at least seven months.

He added that these particularities were discussed in conjunction with all other problems and concerns affecting the Famagusta Police Headquarters.

Very beneficial and useful suggestions have been made, and the Ministry has undertaken to respond to the issues, he noted.

When asked how soon the Ministry of Justice will make decisions to address these specific problems, Mr. Hartsiotis answered affirmatively and added, “This is the intention, to make decisions for the most effective operation not only of this Police Directorate with its specific characteristics but of the entire police force.”

During his visit to the Famagusta Police Headquarters, the Minister of Justice was accompanied, among others, by the Chief of Police, Stelios Papatheodorou.

Initially, the Minister inspected a formation with officers and responsible police stations in the province and various departments of the Famagusta Police Headquarters.

Subsequently, he held a meeting in the office of the Chief of Police of Famagusta, Georgios Oikonomou.

This was followed by a comprehensive meeting with the participation of the heads of police stations in the province and departments during which various problems faced by the police in the province were discussed.
