Industrial production grows by 5.4%

Annual increase of 5.4% was recorded in October by the Industrial Production Index, reaching 138.6 units (base year 2015=100), according to data published by the Statistical Service on Thursday.

In the manufacturing sector, an increase of 4.6% was observed compared to October 2022, while increases were also reported in the sectors of water supply and material recovery (24.7%), mining and quarrying (14.2%), and electricity supply (3.6%).

In the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes compared to October 2022 were observed in the production of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (increase of 66.5%), the production of petroleum refining, chemical substances, pharmaceutical products, and preparations (increase of 17.2%), the production of textile materials, clothing, and leather goods (increase of 12%), the manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles, and other transport equipment (+10.9%), and the manufacture of paper and paper products and printing (+10.5%).

The only activities showing negative changes were the construction of other non-metallic mineral products (decrease of 6.7%), furniture manufacturing and repair/maintenance of machinery and equipment (-5.1%), and the production of products from rubber and plastic (-1.4%).

During the period January–October 2023, the index showed an increase of 2.1% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Comparing the rates of change for the period January–October 2023 with the corresponding period of the previous year, the most significant increases are observed in the production of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (increase of 28.1%), the manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles, and other transport equipment (increase of 12.2%), the production of textile materials, clothing, and leather goods (increase of 9.9%), the production of basic metals and the manufacture of metal products (+9.3%), material recovery (+8.2%), and mining and quarrying (+7.4%).

The only activities showing decreases in production compared to the period January–October 2022 were furniture manufacturing and repair/maintenance of machinery and equipment (decrease of 8.2%), electricity supply (-2.2%), and the production of products from rubber and plastic (-0.7%).
