Government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated on Friday that the government is aware of and is investigating reports in the Cypriot press regarding a businessman from a third country who is alleged to own a company based in Cyprus and is a financier of Hamas.
During a routine media briefing to comment on reports suggesting that a Sudanese businessman maintains a company headquartered in Cyprus and funds Hamas, the spokesperson said, “We are in the process of verifying these details; it is something that we are aware of and are investigating as well.”
The reports refer to revelations from the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) that a Sudanese businessman, considered a financier of Hamas, holds shares in a registered company in Cyprus.
