A fire that broke out near the Politikon community outside Nicosia was put out late afternoon, after two hours of determined response by the fire service and the forestry department, before spreading to a nearby forest.
Less than an hour later, a second front broke out at the Marki-Ayia Varvara area, near the highway leading to the capital, with three fire trucks from Nicosia and two aircrafts responding.
The area is under the jurisdiction of the forestry department with the fire service assisting.
Volunteer groups are supporting.
The two fire fighting aircrafts were returning from the Politiko fire and were making water drops.
