Emergency services under scrutiny in uudge Satolias’ death

Relevant News

The inquest process concerning the death of Judge Kostas Satolias continued yesterday following a complaint from the family regarding death by negligence.

Before the District Court of Paphos appeared the operator of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department, who on the relevant date of 9th June 2018 was responsible for answering urgent calls to the emergency numbers 112 and 119.

The said witness, after cross-examination by the family’s lawyer, Elias Satolias, admitted that the specific service faces various issues with incoming calls made to emergency numbers and that efforts have been made to resolve these issues since the incident in question up to the present day.

In addition to the aforementioned witness, one of the two nurses who were called to respond to the incident on the relevant date also appeared before the Coroner. The nurse testified under oath that the prescribed protocol was not strictly followed, with lawyer Elias Satolias pointing out that if this had happened, the Judge might possibly still be alive today.

The process will continue with the summoning of other witnesses.
