Education Ministry to move forward with school CCTV system

Relevant News

The Ministry of Education is moving forward with a pilot programme for closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance in ten schools, outlining guidelines to ensure privacy compliance.

Importantly, cameras will only record within school boundaries, excluding any capture of adjacent private or public areas.

The Ministry has designated specific locations for camera installation:

  • Central entrances and exits of school buildings
  • Entrances and exits leading to internal courtyards
  • Peripheral points for monitoring potential access to the school interior

The number of cameras will correspond to the number of entrances, exits, and peripheral points to ensure full perimeter coverage.

Privacy measures

  • Cameras will be directed inwards, capturing only school interiors and avoiding recording individuals outside school grounds.
  • Activation will occur only after a Ministry inspection.
  • Video recording will be silent and limited to non-school hours.
  • During breaks, weekends, and holidays, the system will operate 24/7 except when Ministry-approved activities are taking place within the school buildings.
