E-justice disorder continues

Relevant News

The justice system has reverted to the old i-justice electronic case registration system as of yesterday, but it’s not fully operational since, despite the efforts made over the weekend, not all data could be transferred successfully.

However, it remains unknown what will happen with e-justice, as on one hand, the deadline given by the Department of Information Technology for fixing its issues expired yesterday, which is expected to lead to an evaluation of the contract, while on the other hand, the Deputy Minister of Innovation states that efforts to resolve the problems continue.

Yesterday, the President of the Cyprus Bar Association, Michalis Vorkas, citing information he has, stated that it will take a few more days until all case data is transferred, with the majority of it already being moved.

Mr. Vorkas further stated that law firms couldn’t work properly in the past few days due to the unsuccessful operation of e-justice.

However, he added that it’s a system for which the Cypriot people paid, and those making decisions must address the issue so that it can be implemented, considering that it will be able to meet the needs and demands of justice.

According to an announcement from the Supreme Court, all entries in the e-justice system that were rejected from Sunday, January 28, 2024, must be re-entered through the i-justice system within 5 days.

The Supreme Court adds that due to the immediate transition to the i-justice system, new cases, interim applications, court hearings, court records, and some related information and documents regarding those entered into the e-justice system during its operation have been transferred to it at this stage.

The transfer of the remaining information and documents that could not be transferred from e-justice to i-justice so far continues and is expected to be completed in the coming days. e-justice will remain active with any information entered into it until Friday, January 26, 2024, without allowing any new entries or other actions through the system.

The Supreme Court clarifies that all entries made in physical form will also be transferred to the i-justice system in the coming days.

In the meantime, new cases entered in physical form since January 15, 2024, will be handled manually until further notice.
