Driver seriously injured in Paphos collision; arrested for not having residence permit

Two drivers were seriously injured in a traffic collision on the central avenue of Peyia on Monday evening.

The incident involved a head-on collision between two vehicles, one driven by a 53-year-old Greek national and the other by a 44-year-old man of African descent.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that the vehicle driven by the 44-year-old veered into oncoming traffic, directly impacting the path of the 53-year-old’s car.

Both drivers were transferred to Paphos General Hospital. Despite the seriousness of their conditions, doctors say that they are out of life-threatening danger.

The 44-year-old driver has been placed under arrest following the collision, as he was found to be residing in Cyprus illegally.

Traffic police are investigating the causes of the collision.
