Cyprus: Security measures extended to potential targets due to Israel

Relevant News

An emergency meeting at the Police Headquarters discussed the emergency security measures in Cyprus, due to the situation in Israel.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Stelios Papatheodorou, was attended by the leadership of the Force and all the Police Directors of the provinces. After reviewing the situation and in view of the fact that things are expected to deteriorate even further, clear instructions were given as the measures were extended to all Israeli interests in Cyprus.

According to Philenews reports, in addition to airports and ports, measures are being taken at marinas and special emphasis is being placed on roadblocks, while border guards were also activated in order to increase their vigilance for terrorist issues.

At the same time, emergency security measures will now cover Jewish synagogues in almost all cities, the rabbi’s house in Larnaca, companies of Israeli interests, as well as hotels that are either owned by Israelis or where Israeli citizens are staying.

The authorities estimate that there are currently 12,000 Israeli citizens permanently living and operating in Cyprus, to whom the Cyprus Police will provide security.

As is known, since last Saturday, increased security measures have been taken at the Israeli Embassy in Nicosia, and at other places that could be targeted.

During the meeting, clear instructions were given to engage all available police officers, since the authorities want to prevent any attempt to transfer the war to our country.
