Today, the investigative team of the Cyprus Police, led by Chief Stelios Papatheodorou, held its initial meeting with the six American experts who arrived in Cyprus to examine the revelations regarding Cyprus Confidential and the violation of sanctions against Russia.

During the meeting at the Police Headquarters, the role of the specialists and the assistance they can provide to advance the investigations, particularly into serious cases, was clarified.

According to Christos Andreou, the Police Spokesperson, the assistance from the six experts will be advisory, and they will not interfere in any way with interrogations or investigations.

Their role will be purely supportive and advisory in terms of how the investigations should be conducted.

Moreover, he added that advice would be provided for problem-solving during the investigation of a case to overcome any challenges.

In parallel, the six specialists, including FBI agents, will present to the investigators examining the sanctions violation cases the best practices followed in investigating economic offenses, based on their expertise and experience.

The American experts who came to Cyprus at the invitation of the President of the Republic, following consultation with the US Ambassador, do not have the right to take depositions, participate in interrogations, or engage in any other action related to the investigations.
