Relevant News

The Cyprus parliament on Thursday passed a unanimous resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s military offensive against the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave that has prompted the mass exodus of Armenians living there for decades.

At the same time, MPs called on President Nikos Christodoulides to prompt the EU to strongly condemn the Armenian ethnic cleansing in the volatile area.

The same appeal will be made to President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola who is scheduled to visit Cyprus on Sunday.

In the resolution, the Parliament firstly condemned Azerbaijan’s aggression and targeting of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and then called for de-escalation of the crisis.

As well as for security conditions to be ensured for the 120,000 Armenians living in the region.

It also calls on Azerbaijan to comply with its international obligations and to resume dialogue in the framework of an international peace process to find a lasting solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

That is, in accordance with international law and the principles of the Helsinki Final Act.
