Today, the Interior Minister of Cyprus, Constantinos Ioannou, met with the Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum, Dimitris Kairidis, to discuss aspects of migration.
This was within the framework of Cyprus’ initiative to create an informal alliance to promote a reassessment of the Syrian regime’s status.
After visits to Denmark and the Czech Republic, Mr Ioannou informed the Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum about his intention to send letters to countries that have shown interest for further coordination.
Kairidis described the initiative as significant and conveyed his country’s willingness to participate.
The two ministers discussed the concerning increase in migration flows and the need for joint actions for better management.
They also talked about the system of providing material reception conditions and integration procedures.
Finally, Ioannou and Kairidis exchanged views on the new Migration and Asylum Pact, and it was agreed to establish a Cyprus-Greece team for joint funding advocacy through the new fund of the Pact.
