Cyprus did not receive request from Russia over alleged Western involvement in terrorism

Relevant News

Cyprus did not receive any request from Russia requesting assistance in investigating alleged Western involvement in terrorist attacks on Russian soil, the Ministry of Justice told philenews on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Russian state news agency TASS reported that Russia’s General Prosecutor’s Office had sent official requests to Western countries such as Cyprus, the United States, Germany, and France asking them to respect international obligations to deliver justice as they investigate the Nord Stream blasts and “acts of terrorism” in Russia.

The move follows appeals from several Russian lawmakers and figures, including politician Andrei Krasov and political scientist Aleksandr Dugin, for an investigation into potential foreign financing and organisation of terror acts, including the bombing that killed Dugin’s daughter, Darya.

Russia claims to possess “direct evidence” implicating Western countries, specifically mentioning the United States and Ukraine, of collaborating with ISIS and Ukrainian intelligence to carry out attacks in Russia.

The requests cite international anti-terrorism conventions and urge cooperation from the targeted nations in identifying perpetrators and holding them accountable.

Russia and the West, at loggerheads over Moscow’s conflict with Ukraine, have accused each other of the pipeline blasts. Each has denied involvement and no one has taken responsibility.

The Kremlin has called the situation regarding the investigations “close to absurd”.
