«Cyprus Confidential» – an explosive report unveiling Cyprus’ secret financial deals with Russia – with potential coverage extending to the much-criticized Golden Passports issue will be released on Tuesday, at 6pm.
The much-hyped report was carried out by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists with over 270 reporters from 55 different countries and regions working on it for the past six months.
This is what Philenews reports, adding that between July and September the files of two major cases focusing on the same number of law firms with political interests were sent to the Republic’s Law Office. So far, they have not been sent for trial.
In both cases, police investigators are recommending criminal charges against both law firms.
At the same time, it is common knowledge that only three cases concerning the now-scrapped controversial Cyprus Investment Programme were referred to court.
Well-known state-run broadcasting networks, such as Germany’s ZDF and ORF, which is Austria’s state broadcaster, were reportedly involved in the research. Other reports suggest that the BBC was also involved.
It seems that a large number of documents from a well-known auditing firm with years of presence in Cyprus ended up in the hands of the journalists.
These documents allegedly show manipulations made on behalf of investors in order for certain businessmen to circumvent sanctions imposed on them.
