Cypriots to participate in solidarity Hamburg event for Kenan Ayaz

Relevant News

An event titled “Upon Erdogan’s Request,” featuring Cypriot participation, is set to take place on Wednesday in Hamburg, specifically at the social center “Kolibri” in St. Pauli.

The event focuses on the ongoing trial of Kurdish activist Kenan Ayaz, who has been in detention at UHA Holstenglacis since June, following his extradition from Cyprus to Germany.

Speakers at the event will include his defense attorney, Eustathios Eustathiou, Member of Parliament Kostis Eustathiou, and journalist Alekos Michaelides.

According to a press release from the Observatory of Human Rights on Kenan Ayaz’s trial, the event will be coordinated by German MP Cansu Ozdemir, with the presence of MPs from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), which faces persecution in Turkey.

The title of the event refers to the Turkish-orchestrated prosecution of both Kenan Ayaz and other Kurdish activists across Europe, particularly in Germany.

After his one-day visit to Germany last November, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed satisfaction “with the legal process before the Higher Regional Court of Hamburg against a suspect official of the Kurdish terrorist organization PKK.”

The event is jointly organized by Cypriots and Germans in solidarity with Kenan Ayaz, who awaits the court’s decision and his return to Cyprus.
