Couple investigated for Church theft

A couple had been reportedly involved in a burglary of an office within the precinct of the Church of Agia Paraskevi in ​​Yeroskipou last week, during which a sum of 5,000 euros and other valuable items were stolen.

The woman was arrested in a police operation last night, while her husband is being sought under a judicial warrant.

The burglary of the auxiliary building of the renowned temple of Agia Paraskevi in ​​the central square of the Municipality of Yeroskipou occurred on February 3.

The priest of the church reported to the Police that the office of the Church of Agia Paraskevi, located next to the church, was burglarized, and the sum of 5,000 euros was stolen from it.

Members of the Paphos CID went to the scene, and from the examinations, it was found that the entry and exit of the perpetrators were achieved through a wooden window of the office, which was violated with a sharp object, while external protective bars were also severed.

Various evidence was collected from the scene for forensic examinations.

The Police secured testimony yesterday for a person involved in the case.

An arrest and search warrant was issued against him by the Paphos District Court for the premises where he resides.

Members of the force searched the premises in the presence of the wife of the wanted person yesterday afternoon, locating and collecting as evidence a sum of 4,705 euros, as well as gold-colored cufflinks and two brass-colored rings.

The wife of the wanted person was arrested and, during interrogation, made some claims that are being investigated.
